Anne Feller Exhibit Opens May 3 at Tointon Gallery

Encaustic painting “Till I See You Again” with two figures at a table and two wearing masks.

GREELEY, Colo. — A new exhibit titled “L I M I N A L” opens May 3 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at Greeley’s Tointon Gallery, followed by an artist reception from 5-7 p.m. The collection of works is by Anne Feller, a figurative encaustic artist based out of Boulder, Colorado.

Encaustic works are created by mixing pigments with hot wax and applying them to a surface, creating texture and dimension. Feller’s work examines moments of being caught in an intermediate state of existence and the growing pains associated with transitioning from one life stage to another. Each piece captures people or the remnants of their presences. Memories of these figures are found somewhere between the experienced and the forgotten, captured in a light of nostalgia yet apprehension, familiarity yet uncertainty.

Facing themes of mortality, “L I M I N A L” bears witness to the quiet passage of time and what unfolds in the moments of the in-between. Feller describes her process of layering as a method of preservation which reflects her concerns surrounding the mortality of the people, the moment, and the memory depicted within her works.

The exhibit is free and open to the public and will be on display at the gallery through June 7.

Located at 651 10th Avenue, just inside the Greeley Recreation Center, the Tointon Gallery provides community members with opportunities to experience the visual arts and enjoyment and education from thought provoking discussion. The gallery features up to 12 different exhibits each year – with opportunities to meet and ask questions of the artists – and is often open and accessible during evening performances at the Union Colony Civic Center.
