Sculpture On Loan
Program Sponsored by the City of Greeley and the Greeley Art Commission
In recognition of the importance of art forms in public areas and interest in encouraging the donation of artwork which fosters a broad range of social, cultural and historic values, the Greeley City Council established the Greeley Art Commission in 1993.
In 1995, the Commission initiated the Sculpture on Loan Program with the placement of three pieces of art in the downtown area. Currently, over a dozen pieces are being displayed each year. For information about the current artwork, including a map please see the 2008 Sculpture On Loan brochure.
At the end of each year the Art Commission solicits art pieces to be on display for the following year in our public areas and community parks. Artists lend their work to the City for one year for a $500 honorarium and in return the City agrees to publicize their work. Click here to download a 2009 Application.
Each year, with citizen input the City purchases one piece of sculpture and adds it to the permanent art collection. Greeley now has 25 sculptures in public places. They have either been purchased by the City, over half as “People’s Choice” purchases from the annual Sculpture on Loan program, or donated by Greeley citizens.
