How Water Works: An Interactive Tour
Written in Water
Ever since they founded the Union Colony in 1870 as an agricultural utopia, the citizens of Greeley have been fascinated by the transforming effects of water. Beginning with the colossal efforts to bring trans-mountain water to the region and the irrigation of a semi-arid environment, the community has prospered and diversified over the years, changing from a treeless prairie to Tree City, USA.
The passion for water, the complexity of the issues and the hope for a bright future are all captured in this 26-minute film featuring the wisdom of WD Farr and poetry by Justice Greg Hobbs.
The video was created as a City of Greeley, 1% for Art project . Greeley's 1% for Art program, approved in 1998, established a modest but deliberate mechanism to assure that significant public projects continue to invigorate the cultural identity of the community. One percent of all the City's capital improvements costs for projects over $50,000 are dedicated to the expenditure of artistic design in the project composition or for artwork acquisition.

Great Western Sugar Factory Demolition Webcam
The Great Western Sugar Factory is currently being demolished to make way for the new Leprino Foods cheese plant. Greeley Water contributed to the incentive package that brought the new factory to the City. Greeley 's Industrial Water Bank, which was set up by City Council and the Water Board several years ago, uses Greeley 's considerable water assets to encourage such industrial development, at no cost to the rate payers.
You can view the historical demolition through Greeley's Water & Sewer Department webcam.
To view the webcam for the first time, you will need to download free software to access the page. If you are a City of Greeley employee and cannot get the software to load from your work computer, please contact the IT department.
