Announcements: Greeley Showerhead Exchange

Title

Greeley Showerhead Exchange

Body

November 23
Winter Farmer's Market - 508 8th Avenue
9:00 a.m. to noon

The City of Greeley Water Conservation program is having its third showerhead exchange of the year. Residents are asked to bring old showerheads to the water conservation booth at the Greeley Winter Farmer’s Market at 508 8th Avenue. The showerhead exchange will take place on Saturday, November 23 from 9 a.m. to noon. The City of Greeley will give you a new low-water, high functioning EPA WaterSense labeled showerhead in exchange for your old model. To get the free showerhead, you must get your water from the City of Greeley Water & Sewer Department. Please bring your current water bill or Driver’s License to the exchange to prove residency. Participants will also receive free faucet aerators that save water and energy while increasing water pressure in bathroom and kitchen sinks.

“Installing high-efficiency fixtures in before the holidays is a smart move,” said Ruth Quade, Water Conservation Coordinator for the City of Greeley. “People often have more houseguests around this time of year and new fixtures could help keep water and energy costs down.”

Showering accounts for nearly 17 percent of all residential indoor water use, or about 30 gallons per household per day. That is about 1.2 trillion gallons of water every year in the United States. What’s more, it takes energy to heat the water when you shower. By replacing a showerhead with a WaterSense labeled model, the average family can reduce its annual energy and water costs by more than $70 and save 2,900 gallons of water per year—the amount of water it takes to wash more than 70 loads of loads of laundry. What’s more, because it takes energy to heat shower water, that family can save the amount of electricity it takes to power its home for 13 days every year just by switching to a WaterSense labeled showerhead.
