2009 Baby Animal Days at Plumb Farm
Enjoy spring at the farm with mothers and babies.
The Plumb Farm Learning Center celebrates spring with its annual Baby Animal Days Apr. 27-May 9.
During the two-week period, families
are invited to the farm to see such animals as llamas, alpacas, goats,
lambs, cows, horses, pigs, rabbits, chicks and ducks. Mothers
accompany the babies that are not yet weaned. The animals are loaned by
local farmers who provide care and feeding instructions.
The event is open daily for the two weeks. Hours Monday through
Saturday are 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. On Sunday the schedule is 1-4
p.m. Admission is $2 ages three and older.
Visitors may interact with the animals and sometimes feed them,
depending on the farmers’ instructions. There are eggs and feathers to
identify, a tractor to “drive,” stick animals to ride and even a sandbox
for playtime. Volunteers are stationed at the animal pens and stalls to
answer questions and ensure the safety of the visitors and animals. One
of the regular volunteers is Annie Glenn, the daughter of C. O. Plumb,
the last owner of the farm. Annie shares stories of growing up on the
farm with visitors to Baby Animal Days and other events there.
There are restroom facilities and picnic tables on site. Allow at least
a half-hour for the visit. Walk-in visitors are welcome, but groups of
10 or more are asked to reserve a time slot by calling the Greeley
Museums’ office at 350-9220. Baby Animal Days began on a small scale in
1994 and has expanded to include nearly two dozen animals and 5000
visitors. The Plumb Farm is a Colorado Centennial Farm that has been in
the same family for over a hundred years. It is located at 39th Ave. and
10th St., just across from the post office.
